Denver Union Station
Denver Union Station was one of the largest transportation redevelopment projects in North America. This $500 million intermodal transportation hub connects multiple public plazas with light rail, commuter rail, Amtrak, and bus transit. The Transit Center includes an underground bus facility that serves more than 15 bus routes. It is located between the existing station and multiple rail platforms. Iron Horse’s overall participation at the transit center required team member involvement on multiple task orders including design and modeling, historic restoration of the exterior, landmark preservation, signage and wayfinding design. The design of this hybrid space focused on connectivity, allowing visitors to move easily from space to space and from one transit mode to the next, and on the accessibility of passengers to make easy connections across the metro area.
As the Associate Architect Iron Horse lead 11 enabling projects from historic preservation of the Main Train Hall to OCS protection of the architecturally significant Millennium Bridge. In addition to the enabling projects Iron Horse lead the VDC effort transforming 18 consultants 2-D CADD files into integrated VDC models. This work both supported schedule improvement, coordination as well as innovative prefabrication by the sub-contractors. the prefabrication improved the schedule reduced conflicts and increased overall quality of the construction work. This project achieved LEED-Gold certification.
