SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY AND ADVANCING RESEARCH THROUGH RESILIENT AND THOUGHTFUL DESIGN.
Utilizing our extensive background collaborating with federal, state, and local government entities, Iron Horse possesses the expertise to conceptualize and execute complex projects tailored to the specific requirements of both local and federal agencies. We understand the intricacies of the federal process — allowing our team to swiftly anticipate and adapt to the evolving dynamics, governmental mandates, and fiscal fluctuations our industry continuously faces. We employ a design methodology that reaches beyond traditional problem solving to create design solutions that optimize resiliency, efficiency, and return on investment.

City and County of Denver, Red Rocks Amphitheater
Iron Horse Architects worked with the City to bring several city-owned properties into ADA compliance, and one in particular presented significant challenges due to site complexities, historic context, and project schedule. The Red Rocks Amphitheater is Colorado’s premier entertainment venue, hosting over 150 events annually ranging from concerts to graduations, private events, and other organized community engagements. This project stands as a commitment to accessibility, community engagement, and the delicate balance of incorporating ADA features within the context of the Red Rocks landscape. Visitors now experience a venue that not only respects regulatory standards but also reflects the spirit and inclusivity of the community it serves.

City and County of Denver, Denver Police Department Crime Laboratory
The new Denver Police Crime Laboratory required state-of-the-art technology and an insightful design implementation strategy for the award-wining, ISO Certified, highly secure, forensic and evidence-handling facility. The facility has two sub-grade levels of renovated space and high tech laboratories on the upper three floors. The space includes an auditorium for teaching, offices, and support space, as well as preparation areas. One of the unique aspects of this project was the incorporation of collaborative spaces outside of the laboratories and offices. Interior design elements reflect the DNA analysis occurring within the laboratories.

City and County of Denver, Colorado Convention Center
The expanded convention center will be a destination for the community, visitors, and users alike offering additional meeting, banquet, and event spaces. Iron Horse Architects led design and development of the public access routes, as well as wayfinding and signage. The expanded vertical circulation seamlessly integrates within the existing structure and will allow spaces to both operate independently and simultaneously. The new towers will be integrated into the existing facade of the building, activating the street edge to the community. The addition will be a hallmark of excellent and responsible design, enhancing visual connections from the street level to the upper levels of the facility.

Douglas County Unified Metropolitan Forensic Crime Laboratory
Iron Horse is both the Architect of Record and Lab Planner for an ambitious undertaking encompassing seven independently mission-critical program-related projects scheduled for design and implementation over the next five years. The scope of renovation projects on the campus is vast and includes the creation of a 3,500-square-foot Sterility Suite, a similarly sized BSL-3 suite, instrumentation labs, shared equipment rooms, Sample Prep areas, walk-in cold and freezer rooms, as well as media prep rooms.

Denver Water Campus Signage + Wayfinding
In anticipation of its 100th anniversary, Denver Water initiated a substantial makeover through the Operations Complex Redevelopment project. Launched last year, the project not only involved the overhaul of outdated buildings on its 34-acre downtown Denver site but also integrated advanced signage and wayfinding solutions to enhance accessibility. Addressing inefficiencies and embracing sustainability, the project successfully modernized key facilities, achieved LEED certification, and implemented cutting-edge water management practices, contributing to a more resilient and environmentally responsible future.

City and County of Denver, St. Charles Place Park
The revitalization journey of St. Charles Place Park originated from a shared vision to seamlessly unite two neighboring properties in the vibrant Cole neighborhood: a cutting-edge office-sharing development and the beloved St. Charles Recreation Center, a longstanding pillar within the community. St. Charles Place Park stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration, design innovation, and the unwavering commitment to creating a safe and vibrant outdoor space for all to enjoy.

National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration, Manchester Station
The NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC) Manchester Research Station is NOAA’s premier marine culture and experimental research station, developing state-of-the-art tech for salmonid and marine fish culture. The research work done at this site helps support sound decisions that build sustainable fisheries, recover endangered and threatened species, sustain healthy ecosystems, and expand domestic seafood production through sustainable marine aquaculture. Iron Horse developed a site master plan that addressed current and future development opportunities, preserved and maintained surrounding environment and water edge, and a roadmap for phased implementation.

Colorado Department of Agriculture, Broomfield Laboratory
The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) hired Iron Horse Architects to help facilitate the design of their new campus headquarters, which included bringing three major laboratories onto one building site. By relocating the laboratories to one site, this allowed the CDA to create a campus culture and provide a cross-functional resource destination for its employees. The design and construction included a 6,000 SF of renovation in the existing building and a new single-story building of 27,300 SF.
